Construction of the Pawan Danavi wind farm commenced in August 2011 and the plant was commissioned in June 2012. The value of the project is LKR 1,520 Mn.
Where We Are
The Pawan Danavi Wind Farm located on the picturesque Kalpitiya peninsula in the Puttlam District in the North-Western Province of Sri Lanka, approximately 160 kilometres North of Colombo. Wind turbines are situated in an area with a predominantly agricultural economy based on a variety of vegetables, onions, chillies and tobacco.
The Kalpitiya region is also a major tourist destination with unique attractions such as wind surfing and kite surfing, in addition to popular pastimes such as snorkelling, dolphin watching and deep sea fishing. There are numerous historic sites in the Kalpitiya area that tourists visit. Due to the proximity of the sea, the fishing community plays a major role in the economy of the area.
